New Habits into Lasting Habits: The Recipes

It takes some good support to turn new good habits into lasting habits. I have been reading alot of Isa Moskowitz these days. She is a Vegan Cookbook Guru. I just recently purchased Appetite for Reduction and have been pursuing the recipes.  I did my planning by cookbook and did the shopping. I am happy to say that Isa was right, Vegan cooking is cheaper! I got my week's meal plan for well under $100 at Whole Foods. That is an accomplishment!

The first recipe that I tried was Black Beans in Red Velvet Mole (p134). I was super duper excited about this recipe because I love mole. Clue #1 - when I put the spices into the pan to lightly toast them, everyone in the house started coughing. I wasn't convinced, though, the recipe had chocolate in it! So I served it up with Moskowitz's Garlicky Kale with Tahini Dressing(Vegan with a Vengence p119).  (I had collards on hand so that replaced the kale). Clue #2 Justin's body shudders upon his first bite of the beans. Clue #3 Justin's quote, "put the mole in a hole"

The taste of the mole was good. I think that the main problem was that I used Chipotle Chili Powder instead of traditional chili powder. I will try this recipe again with regular chili powder. I may have to give it a new name though to get past Justin.

Also on this week's menu:
Veggie Potpie  Stew (p251 in Appetite for Reduction)
Raw Pasta Bolognese (an original)
Tempeh Bacon and Guac (p23 in Vegan with a Vengance)
Scarlet Barley (p69 Appetite for Reduction

I haven't tried anything from that cookbook yet. Maybe next week I will try it out. Got some tofu, tempeh, and miso to use up.
