The first recipe that I tried was Black Beans in Red Velvet Mole (p134). I was super duper excited about this recipe because I love mole. Clue #1 - when I put the spices into the pan to lightly toast them, everyone in the house started coughing. I wasn't convinced, though, the recipe had chocolate in it! So I served it up with Moskowitz's Garlicky Kale with Tahini Dressing(Vegan with a Vengence p119). (I had collards on hand so that replaced the kale). Clue #2 Justin's body shudders upon his first bite of the beans. Clue #3 Justin's quote, "put the mole in a hole"
The taste of the mole was good. I think that the main problem was that I used Chipotle Chili Powder instead of traditional chili powder. I will try this recipe again with regular chili powder. I may have to give it a new name though to get past Justin.

I haven't tried anything from that cookbook yet. Maybe next week I will try it out. Got some tofu, tempeh, and miso to use up.
