Summertime at Nativity House

On this last Sunday, May 25, Nativity House hosted it's first Holy Liturgy. At the beginning of Mass Gracie whispered in my ear, "I don't know why but I feel like I am going to cry." I just smiled and nodded. She squeezed my hand and smiled. I felt the same way. It was one of those moments of reality of the closeness of the Kingdom, the Holy Spirit, Christ.

Dedication
Fr. Walter Dziordz and Fr. Mark Fracaro co-presided at the Dedication Liturgy. We had a nice crowd of friends and love-ones. After the mass dedicating 17141 W. 143rd St. to the work of Nativity House we had a leisurely dinner on the patios. The children had a blast playing in the yard, woods, and with the chickens. It was a perfect day.

CSA
The CSA will be in full swing now that June is upon us. Our six families will now be coming to work the farm gardens either Thursdays from 6-8pm or Saturdays from 8-10am. I am sure that there will be times that they will not be able to come. If you are interested in subbing when this situation presents itself please email me and let me know. We could definitely use your help!

We have over 600 square feet of farm gardens. Half of it is planted - asparagus, raspberries, beans, tomatoes, okra, beets, cucumbers - just to name a few. It has been very exciting to see the new asparagus shoots and little green strawberries growing. Gardens are a wonderful exercise in hope!

Interns Needed
The CSA is up and running. The house has been dedicated. Now what?

We need interns. Before we can begin to think about taking our first guest mother we need two interns signed up for participation in Nativity House community life and to help with the day to day operations of the house.   This would include daily prayer, weekly meals, monthly community Masses, assisting in the needs of the guest mother, assisting in the care of the farm. The thought is that each intern would give 20 hours of weekly service in exchange for room and board (five days on - two days off)

If you or anyone you know is looking for a way to live in community and serve, please let us know.

The application can be found here.

Opportunities to Help
  • In preparing for our interns we will be giving the carriage house a new coat of paint. Stay tuned as we will be having a call for the a painting party!
