Advent: Week 3 - Hospitality

On Saturday night at the vigil mass, when the pink candle was lit, I could hear children gleefully whispering, "they're lighting the pink candle!"  Gracie chimed in, no doubt. I found myself reveling in it too.

Gaudete. Rejoice.

St. Paul said it best, as he usually does,
Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice! Your kindness should be known to all. The Lord is near. Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
There's  that word again - anxiety.
I hear the voice of God calling me out of the anxiety of the season (rush rush rush - buy buy buy) into Rejoicing at the goodness that is all around.

In the last weeks we have welcomed family, old and new friends, a new guest mom, her mom visiting from Nigeria into our home. These old and new relationships bring so much joy. The sounds of children playing, friends enjoying conversation, party games - sharing life brings so much joy.

Advent calls us to revel in the joys of relationship. It is also in these relationships that we find cause for intentional reconciliation and allowing that peace beyond all our understanding to enter in.

Hospitality. Welcoming the guest. Allowing Christ to enter into our relationships bringing joy and healing. Hospitality. Welcome joy and healing.
